to their apartments. A sumptuous dinner was in readiness, after partaking of which they were waited upon by the magistrates of a small town in the neighbourhood, who treated them with the most profound respect, bestowing upon them the freedom of the town, &c. &c. In short, they were thus treated in all the other castles belonging to the Prince which they visited, as if they were of the Royal family of Austria !

The Hungarian nobles are indeed a noble set of men! I wish Esterhazy would take a fancy for you and me.

But this story has made me very hungry, and only look at those luxurious Greeks, sitting smoking opposite to their coffee-house, which is almost at our feet! Would you take them for the descendants of the men who fought at Thermopoylæ ? I too must have a smoke! Come along to the Erz Herzog Carl, where we shall have the delicious broiled chicken, such as you can only get at Vienna. What wine will you have? But we shall settle that—come away! Good bye old steeple for the present! Tomorrow, I shall point out to you, my friend, more of the sights (or, as the Germans say, Lchenswürdigkeiten !) of Vienna, with a few more sayings.
