2562 by 2 by 16 inches, for lid cleats. Two pieces, 2542 by 2 by 20 inches, for cleats across top of ends.

Remove one side from the box, then saw through the ends at an angle so the width of the front will be 21 inches. (See fig. 66.) Nail cleats in place across the top edges of the box ends. Secure the two partitions in place. Nail a piece of the removed side about 3 inches wide across the high end of the top of the bin; to this piece hinge the remainder of pieces removed from the side of the box, which have been previously cleated together.

[blocks in formation]

Remove the ends from the box. Saw through the sides of the box so the top will be 24 inches long and the bottom 10 inches long. (See fig. 69.) From the ends cut a piece 334 by 14 inches (A) and another piece 111⁄2 by 14 inches (B). Nail (A) in place as shown and to this piece hinge (B). From the remainder of the ends cut two strips (C) 2 by 121⁄2 inches and two others (D) 2 by 10 inches. Staple the wire across the bottom of the hopper and then nail strips (C) and (D) in place over the wire. Hang the bottom of the hopper about 10 inches from the floor.

POULTRY DRINKING STAND

Four pieces, 2532 by 3 by 14 inches (A). One box, 26 by 26 by 534 inches. One piece, 2552 by 7 by 26 inches (B). Seven pieces, 6 by 134 by 26 inches (C). Two pieces, 2542 by 14 by 26 inches (D).

Remove top and bottom from the box. Nail the four legs (A) to inside corners of the box. (See fig. 70.) Nail pail support (B) across the bottom of the box. Place pail in the center of (B), then cut two slots 252 by 14 inches in the top edge of each end of the box so that supporting members (D) will

the floor boards to the triangular-shaped half of the box. The door is constructed by stapling chicken wire across the inside of the frame formed by joining together the four pieces composing the doorframe. In addition to holding together the ends of the floor boards protruding beyond the coop, the floor cleats keep the floor off the ground and permit air circulation under it.

POTTING BENCH

One box, 30 by 24 by 30 inches. Two pieces, 116 by 3 inches by inside depth of box (A).

Remove all of one end of the box with the exception of 10 inches across the bottom. Nail cleats (A) in place along the ends of the sides as shown in Figure 68. The three top pieces of the bench may be made from the pieces of the end removed. These pieces are then fastened in place by wood or metal cleats.

come full 1 inch from each side of the pail. Nail top strips (C) across the top of the sides of the box and members (D). The middle strips must be cut to allow the pail to pass through them. The top of the stand may or may not be nailed in place.

GARDEN WHEELBARROW

One box, 30 by 24 by 20 inches. Two pieces, 25% by 25% by 66 inches, for handles (A). Four pieces, 2532 by 8 by 16 inches, for wheel sections (B). One piece, 31⁄2 by 3% by 20 inches, for axle (C). Two pieces, 16 by 25% by 12 inches, for legs (D). Six pieces, 116 by 16 by 25 inches, for cleats (E). One piece 6 by 5 by 24 inches (F).

Round one end of each of the two handles. Nail the box through the bottom to the handles so that the rounded ends project about 25 inches. (See fig. 71.) The handles should be spaced so that the rounded ends are about 25 inches apart and the other ends about 20 inches apart. Nail one cleat (E) to the underside of the handles directly below the front end of the box. Next nail the two legs to the handles with their narrow edge against the cleat. Against the other narrow edge nail a second cleat

to the underside of the handles and a third about 3 inches from the rear end of the box. Nail two other cleats to the inside rear end of the box to support piece (F). The wheel is constructed by cutting

shaped as shown. Slide the axle through the center of the wheel and secure it in place by driving a nail through the axle tight against each side of the wheel. To attach the wheel to the handles, fasten a strap

by 41 46 inches (F). Two pieces, 2542 by 25/32 by 9916 inches (G).

Window plant boxes may be made from several boxes nailed together with the ends removed or from the material listed above. (See fig. 74.) Cleats (D), (E), and (G) are used for ornamentation only, unless several boxes are nailed together, in which case they serve to hide the joints. Cleats (F) nailed to the bottom tend to strengthen the completed window box when a number of boxes are used.

Four pieces of molding for each unit and four addi tional pieces for the attic roof. Four pieces, 716 by 6 inches by inside length of box (inside partitions for units). Hooks and screw eyes.

Cut the box into four equal sections 6 inches deep (See fig. 76.) Remove the ends from the box sections. The ends of the box cut into 6-inch widths may be used for the ends of the attic and the partitions in the units. Cut out two of these pieces as illustrated for attic ends (A). The roof section is
