Remove one-half of one side of one box marked B. Nail partition G in place as shown in Figure 62. Remove one side of each of the boxes marked C. Cut out the ends and bottoms of boxes marked C as shown. Nail shelves K in one box marked C.

Bevel edges of F and fasten it in place in the other box marked C. Shape pieces H and J alike, and secure them to boxes marked C as illustrated. Fasten boxes B and C together. Nail cleats L to sides of boxes B as shown. Nail pieces D to cleats L. Secure top A in place. Notch ends of I and secure to boxes C as shown. Hinge E to box B. Sewing or smoking equipment may be kept in box B at the right.

BOOKCASE SEAT

Two boxes 30 by 1534 by 10 inches for ends A. One box 30 by 15 by 18 inches for seat F. One piece 16 by 12 by 30 inches for B. One piece 16 by 334 by 30 inches, C. Shape feet B as illustrated in Figure 65. Nail feet B to legs A. Secure top E to top ends of legs A; legs A should be spaced 23 inches apart. Nail crossbar C in place 3 inches from bottom ends of the legs A. Cut the two 44 inch square pieces diagonally across the ends, to form four triangular-shaped brackets F. Hinge brackets to top inside of legs A. Hinge leaves D to edges of top E.

Construct four legs from pieces B and C, as shown in Figure 72. Secure pieces F, I, and J to leg strips B. Secure seat supports H and I to leg strips C and B, respectively. Nail center support L to seat supports H. Nail seat boards K to supports H and I. Nail G to upper edges of end strips F. Secure facing strips D and E to seat supports H and I. Secure arm rests A across top ends of legs. A seat cushion of layers of felt, or any preferred stuffing, is easily made.

FIREPLACE WOOD BASKET

Two pieces 10 by 12 by 28 inches for sides A. One piece 16 by 16% by 28 inches for bottom B. One wood barrel hoop for handle C.

Round corners of A as shown in Figure 69. Nail sides A to bottom B. Nail barrel-hoop handle to the sides and edges of the bottom as shown.

DESK FILING CABINET

One box 26 by 8 by 6% inches, A. Eight pieces 16 by 3 by inside width of box A for partitions B. Two pieces 16 by inside width of box A by 93% inches, C. One piece 516 by 64 by 64 inches for door D. Two pieces 16 by 6316 by inside width of box for E. Two butts (hinges) and one catch.

Remove one side of box. Replace top. Secure center partitions E in place as shown in Figure 70. Nail partitions C to ends of box and partitions E. Fasten partitions D between C and top and bottom of box.

SHELF

One piece 2542 by 8 by 26 inches, A. One piece 2582 by 812 by 26 inches, B. One piece 2532 by 61⁄4 by 64 inches, C.

BRACKET

One box, any size. Two facing strips 16 inch in thickness for Č. One facing strip 6 inch in thickness for B.

Cut the box diagonally through the sides, as shown in Figure 73. Nail facing strips C over the protruding sides of the box section. Nail B across the top of the protruding ends of back A.

BREAKFAST TABLE AND CABINET

Nail back B to sides A. Construct table top F by cleating together boards to make up top with cleats H and I as shown. Hinge legs G to

cleats H as shown. Hinge table F to bottom shelf D so that the top end of F will come directly under top shelf C; the bottom end of F should then be flush with the bottom ends of sides A. Chains or metal guides should be used to keep legs from swinging past a vertical position when the table is lowered.
