The Songs of Robert Burns

Front Cover
Donald A. Low
Routledge, 1993 M01 1 - 962 pages
Donald Low, an expert on Robert Burns' songs, has brought together all Burns' known songs, both polite and bawdy. In this edition, Low compiles, in chronological sequence, the words and tunes of all songs at present known, and provides a full critical introduction and detailed notes. An appendix by Peter Davidson discusses arrangements of the songs. The book contains more than 300 songs and music, from his first known composition O, once I lov'd a bonnie lass, through the songs supplied for James Johnson's Scots Musical Museum, and George Thompson's Select Collection, to Burns' bawdy songs secretly published as The Merry Muses of Celedonia.
