Secretary, 13, Cliflbrd's Inn, to whom all Letters nre to be addressed. or The GENERAL COMMITTEE, 1818. The Committee of the National Society have had the satisfaction in their former Reports of stating the great progress which the System of Education was making throughout this Kingdom, and in different parts of the World. They are happy in being able to announce, that its progress during the present year has kept pace with that of former years; that a considerable accession has been made of new Schools to the number of those heretofore established; that the zeal and energy of the public, in extending the operations of the System, remain unabated; and that the blessings which it carries with it, as they are diffusing themselves though a wider range, are more strongly felt and more universally acknowledged. The Committee concluded their report of the last year with expressing their regret, that the Funds entrusted to their care were nearly exhausted, since less than o£3,000. at that time remained at their disposal; they at the same time expressed their intention of proceeding with their operations, in the exercise of their best discretion, for advancing most effectually the purposes of the Society, till the whole should be expended. In the prosecution of this design they continued, besides keeping up the full establishment of training Masters at the Central School, and incurring such other expcnces as could not be retrenched without injury to the Establishment, to make Grants of Money for the purpose of assisting in the erection of Schools in different Towns and Parishes, from which applications were received.
